About the Business

The Mardell family have been hairdressing in Dartford since 1932, establishing it as the longest serving hairdressers in North Kent! Mark's Grandfather Reginald Mardell first opened a very successful barber shop in Lowfield Street under the name of Mardell's. In 1979 Reginald Mardell retired and passed the business down to his son (Mark's father) Melvyn Mardell. Melvyn continued trading on Lowfield Street until 2005 when he was asked to leave due to a new development.

At this point Melvyn decided to retire and Mark Mardell re-opened a new shop in The Priory Shopping Centre. Mark traded at The Priory Centre as Mardell's, the still successful barber shop until 2006 when he employed a lady's stylist (Carlene) and a Saturday girl (Amy). He worked on building the business to a unisex salon and stayed there until he couldn't build any further due to lack of space.
